Archiving South Asian Hong Kong

Aim

Archival material relating to South Asian migration stories in Hong Kong is not available in one place. As part of this project we hope to compile databases regarding available material in the city and beyond to make studying this history easier for scholars and students. We are also in the process of collecting and archiving private papers to establish the first archival collections dedicated to South Asian presence in Hong Kong.

Ongoing Work

The project has begun recovering material relating to South Asian history in Hong Kong available in local archives. We have initially compiled a list of records relating to India, Pakistan and Nepal available in the Hong Kong Public Records Office here. We have also compiled a smaller list of the records with additional word searchable keywords. The spreadsheet is available here.

Within the next few months we also hope to make available several new private paper collections related to South Asian history in Hong Kong.
